Providing Free WiFi to All 5 Boroughs of NYC

Residents and visitors are never far away from a charging station or access to WiFi, making the city safer and more connected.

The LinkNYC Kiosk Network Program is a public/private partnership, replacing old telephone booths with digital ad displays. As the underlying infrastructure provider since 2016, ZenFi Networks has enabled over 1800 kiosk locations that support USB charging, 911 calling, and access to public service information. Since its inception, LinkNYC users have logged over 2.8 billion Wi-Fi sessions, 25 million free phone calls, and saved over $285 million in data costs. 30% of LinkNYC users rely on the network as their sole source of access to high-speed broadband. In addition, ZenFi Networks will help deploy over 2000 new, 5G enabled Link kiosks over the next 4 years.

ZenFi Networks continues to collaborate with our local communities on digital learning initiatives. Our growing digital infrastructure provides assets to help bridge the digital divide. We strive to create solutions that provide accessibility and flexibility for our partners. With our work with LinkNYC, more kiosks have been introduced throughout our communities. Because of this, companies that provide broadband services can utilize the fiber running to the kiosks for backhaul and are able to provide competitive local service.

As network traffic demands increase, so does energy consumption by mobile networks. Thanks to ZenFi Networks’ small cell deployments and upgraded protocols and architecture, 5G is becoming increasingly more environmentally friendly. With more data per kilowatt hour than earlier wireless technology, 5G is both modernizing telecommunications and helping the environment.
